Todd and Nicole

August, 2013

These days everyone is talking about DIY (do it yourself) weddings. It’s the trend but it takes a lot of vision and work to pull it all together. For Todd and Nicole, a Lakes Region couple who married four years to the day from their first date, a creative, rustic yet elegant wedding with family and friends was a must. “I knew I wanted an outdoor, rustic chic feel for our wedding. I also wanted it to be inexpensive and I wanted to use local vendors,” says Nicole.

Luckily, Todd’s sister (photographer Kim Keyes) had been the wedding photographer for another rustic, DIY Lakes Region wedding earlier in the summer. Kim shared with her brother and Nicole how special the wedding had been, full of vintage touches such as mismatched antique dinner plates, handmade wooden tables and much more. In a pay-it-forward, generous spirit, the bride and groom that were married earlier in the summer offered to lend Todd and Nicole many items for their wedding. The wedding, held in late August, became a wonderful mixture of borrowed items and Nicole and Todd’s handmade touches, plus contributions of time, materials and food from family members.

The ceremony took place at a family home, with lots of rustic touches such as the distressed whitewashed wooden doors that served as a ceremony entranceway. Nicole was driven tot he ceremony in a beautiful horse and buggy from Josh Battles. Later, guests dined on an old-fashioned pig roast and then danced the night away in a tent, also on the family property.

Beyond excited to see such a perfect couples wedding featured in this magazine. Todd and Nicole’s wedding was such a beautifully detailed wedding! They thought of absolutely everything and it didn’t go unnoticed. Their time and effect into planning the wedding as well as all the handmade or homemade decorations, tables, food, cake and deserts, center pieces, and even some of the formal wear (just to name a few) made it very special and unique. The bride and groom, the wedding party, the ceremony and the tent with all the decorations was absolutely stunning in every direction you looked. The style of the wedding was the perfect match for the couple. They were surrounded by people who love them and everyone had such a great memorable time.
