Living in Boston, but loving the Lakes Region (the bride grew up in the area), Megan and Monte chose the Margate Resort in Laconia for their wedding because it offered an all-inclusive location. “We wanted a convenient, yet beautiful wedding venue,” says Megan. “Our rehearsal dinner was in the dining room at the Margate; there was hotel lodging for guests who traveled to be at our wedding; an incredible pavilion area for our ceremony; a roomy tent overlooking the lake for our reception just steps away from the pavilion, and an indoor pool for our after-party.”
The couple spent 1 1/2 years planning the wedding, with 100 guests attending. The color scheme was light blue, white and a summery pinkish. This was reflected in the maids’ gowns (blue) and the florals throughout the wedding (pinkish and cream). The groomsmen wore suits in a subdued blue and the groom had a stand-out blue suit. All together, everything worked seamlessly.
The morning of the wedding dawned warm and sunny, but rain was forecast for mid-day, so the staff at the Margate accommodated by switching the time of a scheduled boat ride (the bride had her heart set on a ride and photos in the bay area near the Margate in a vintage wooden boat.) The ride was to have taken place during the reception, but with rain in the forecast, it was rescheduled to mid morning. (The vintage boat was from the Ekal Activity Center.)
By the 3 pm ceremony, the skies opened and a rain storm moved through the area. Guests were seated in the pavilion for the ceremony, but the nuptials were held off until the rain ended a half hour later.
The ceremony was romantic and emotional with the backdrop of Lake Winnipesaukee and the lush florals. Guests watched as the couple exchanged vows and began their new life as husband and wife.
Following the ceremony, there was a cocktail hour in the nearby tent, where guests mingled and took in the lake views.
The reception was catered by Hart’s Turkey Farm with a menu chosen by the couple. The three-tiered wedding cake was from Jacques Fine European Pastries, and each layer was a different flavor.
After dinner, guests took to the dance floor with music by Ramu and the Crew.
Says bride, Megan, “My most memorable parts of the day were being with family and friends, dancing and the pool party following the reception.”
Megan and Monte offer advice for couples in the midst of planning their wedding, “Get a binder when you start planning. Also, get a separate calendar so you can keep track of when deposits and deadlines are due. This was very helpful for us, because planning a wedding can be overwhelming. There are a lot of details.”
The bride also suggests couples watch the weather and be flexible with the plans for the wedding day.
After the memorable and fun wedding, the couple
traveled to Greece and Italy for a two-week whirlwind
honeymoon.
