What bride and groom would pass up the chance to get married in a beautiful location with views of the lake far below? That was a dream of Kris and Kim when they planned their wedding.
Kim says, “Kris and I wanted to tie the knot in a place that had meaning to both of us. Rattlesnake Mountain in Holderness was one of the first mountains we hiked together. I did not grow up in NH so it really was a special place. And the hike is well worth the breathtaking view. Many of our family members were coming out from Michigan, so this was a great way to show them the beauty of NH.”
She continues, “It was an idea we weren’t sure we could pull off, but I mentioned it to family and friends and everyone had input on how we could make a mountaintop wedding work. I mentioned the idea to photographer Adam Peschke and he was intrigued and so showed interest, so I knew I wanted to work with him if this is what we were going to do. We had to cover details many brides wouldn’t have to worry about, like where was I going to change, how would we play music, would our pastor hike, who would bring my dress up the mountain and where was the aisle!? We had to plan every little detail and think about the logistics of a wedding on a mountaintop. Pieces slowly came together. I found a white Eze-Up tent with walls so I could change into my gown and my sister in-law backpacks, so she was more than willing to hike up and bring my gown. A good friend of ours plays guitar, so we asked her if she would play at the top; she loved the idea! My hair was done before the hike and we brought the makeup up. A crazy wedding idea turned into a dream wedding with the help of family and friends!”
During the planning, Kim was uncertain about getting guests to the mountaintop ceremony site. “One of the main reasons we were not going to hike for the ceremony was because of my 85 year-old grandmother not having the ability to make it up the montain. It meant the world to me to have her at my wedding. During our planning, I asked her if she would come to NH for my wedding. She thought she would be unable to attend, so we went ahead with our idea to hike up the mountain for the ceremony. A few days before the wedding she changed her mind last minute … and because of the stubborn, hard-working woman she is, my grandmother decided to hike, and made it! In the end, all of our grandparents made the hike.”
The rain was a huge worry, but Kim and Kris decided if it rained they would push back the ceremony to right before the reception. Since they were hiking and asked guests to wear something comfortable, they had a gap of time, about four hours, between the ceremony and reception so they could go freshen up and change for the evening if it rained.
Kim says of the lake/boat photos following the ceremony, “For the night of the wedding and a few days after we were staying at Oliver Lodge in Meredith. The cabin where we were staying is on an island so we thought it would be fun to take photos paddling over! We took a minute to enjoy our first moments as husband and wife and then we went to Laconia for the reception.”
The reception was held at the rustic, popular Pitman’s Freight Room in Laconia. Catering was by Burrito Me and the menu was extensive: smoked local pig, grilled chicken breast, Quinoa vegetable salad, ini salsa cornbread, roasted red/sweet potatoes, fresh green salad and chips and salsa for an appetizer.
